What types of vehicles can be driven with A1, B1 licenses according to the Draft Amendment Law

What kind of car can Class A1 drive?

In Article 97 of the recent draft Road Traffic Law, the Ministry of Transport plans to divide driver's licenses (driving licenses) into 17 classes instead of 13 classes as at present.

In particular, the most popular motorbike license – class A1 has been drafted and changed significantly. Specifically, for motorbikes, the driver's license is divided into 3 classes.

– Class A0 granted to drivers of motorcycles (including electric scooters) with a cylinder capacity of less than 50 cm3 or with an electric motor capacity not exceeding 04 kw.

– Class A1 is granted to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with cylinder capacity from 50 cm3 to 125 cm3 or with electric motor capacity of over 04 kW to 11 kW and vehicles specified for A0 class driving licenses.

– Class A is granted to drivers of two-wheeled motorcycles with a cylinder capacity of over 125 cm3 or an electric motor capacity of over 11 kW and vehicles prescribed for class A0 and A1 driving licenses.

Thus, according to the draft revised Road Traffic Law, popular models with a capacity of less than 175 cc being driven by the current A1 will be affected.

Specifically, vehicles such as Honda SH 150, Airblade 150, Honda Winner, Yamaha Exciter 135 or 150 cc and Yamaha NVX will need a new driver's license.

However, a class A driver's license will be able to drive even large displacement vehicles with a capacity of over 175 cc like the previous A2 class.

2 What kind of car can Class B1 drive?

Besides two-wheeled motorbikes, the driving license for cars has also undergone many changes, most notably, the B1 class driver's license according to the draft will no longer be allowed to drive cars.

Class B1 driver's license will be issued to drivers of three-wheeled motorcycles and vehicles specified for class A0 and A1 driving licenses.

This means that drivers of cars with less than 9 seats will have to test for a B2 class driver license, not B1 as before if the revised draft Road Traffic Law is passed.

Class B2 is granted to drivers of autos with up to 9 seats (including the driver's seat) with automatic transmissions, trucks (including special-purpose trucks) with automatic transmissions with a volume of cargo according to equipment. The design weight does not exceed 3,500 kg, the cars specified for the B2 Class License are attached to the trailer with the total design weight of the trailer not exceeding 750 kg.
